A denim vest with a suede yoke, patterned lining, embroidered corduroy trousers, a white shirt and a faded red cap. On paper, there is already too much going on.

What keeps it together is that the details are spread across different surfaces. The vest carries most of the construction: denim, leather, quilting, lining. The trousers add embroidery, but in a colour close enough to the corduroy that it reads more as texture than decoration. The white shirt interrupts both.
Nothing here is neutral in itself. Together, though, the pieces begin to balance one another.
Sometimes an outfit does not need restraint. It just needs the details to compete at different volumes.
